INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING A SPRINKLER HEAD TRIMMER:

  1. Turn off the sprinkler system. Wait until the grass is dry to trim it. Identify the location of each sprinkler head on your lawn and mark it with a flag or stick so you won't miss any as you are working.
  2. Remove a 1-inch ring of sod around each pop-up sprinkler head using the sprinkler head trimmer. Choose a sprinkler head trimmer with a diameter that is 1 inch greater than the diameter of the sprinkler head. Position the trimmer over top of the sprinkler head and push it down into the ground. Turn trimmer's handle clockwise 360 degrees. Pull the trimmer upward out of the ground. Discard the removed circle of turf.
  3. Cut the grass blades around the perimeter of each trench with a pair of grass shears. Do not cut the grass blades shorter than the mowing height of the lawn.
  4. Brush away any grass clippings stuck to the sprinkler heads. Remove any loose grass clippings from the trenches.
  5. Repeat the trimming process each time you mow your lawn. Re-dig the trenches every 3 to 4 months during the lawn's growing season
